Christian Nicolson

Christian Nicolson

Christian Nicolson always had the desire to create. This led him to complete a Diploma in Design in 1992, which followed into working as a graphic designer both in New Zealand and London. A change in profession occurred when he realised his real passion was to pursue a career as an independent artist. This resulted in many public exhibitions of his work including many solo exhibitions.  “Art is what I enjoy doing… we should all do things we enjoy.”

Christian likes to be creative in as many ways possible. Whatever process it takes to get his ideas across he will explore. Making sculptures, building large installations in landscapes, photography, painting, screen printing, playing in a rock band and film making. These are his varied creative outlets, “I pride myself in doing different things.”

There is a cryptic nature to Christians paintings, however he wants the viewer to ‘understand’ what he’s getting at. He does this through subtle references using text and graphic imagery.

“Art for me is a passion. Sometimes pure instinct, sometimes quite structured, but usually it’s a fairly organic process. It makes me feel good to express myself. And it’s great to be able to share that with others.”
